About the University
AGH University of Science and Technology is the second largest Polish technical university, established in 1919, presently with 15 Faculties covering a wide spectrum of fundamental and applied sciences, ranging from traditional Polish industries (mining and metallurgy) to electronics, solid state, nuclear physics, management and energy. In the latter case, a special interfaculty unit (Interfaculty School of Energy, ISE) has been recently created with its own programme and students.Almost 30% of the AGH budget is generated due to its collaboration with the governmental and industrial institutions. The scientific and research achievements of the University implemented in practice provide evidence that the research policies respond to the market and the outlays are spent properly.
Faculty of Fuels and Energy
The Faculty of Fuels and Energy comprises divisions, which work on technical, economic and environmental aspects of fuels and energy. The Faculty co-operates with industrial enterprises from which it takes inspiration for research and improvements of the syllabus; at the same time, the Faculty offers its services in consulting and improving the qualifications of engineers. The Faculty plays also a leading role in the ISE. Its staff participated in many international projects in the field Renewable Energies and Energy Efficiency, i.e.- New Energy Externalities Developments for Sustainability (NEEDS, 6th FP),
- Investing in RES&RUE Technologies: Models for Saving Public Money (Invert, ALTENER),
- Testing and Dissemination of Public Internal Performance Contracting Schemes with Pilot Projects on Energy-Efficient Lighting in Public Buildings (PICOLight, SAVE),
- Integrated Approach to Wood-Waste Combustion for Heat Production in Poland (GEF),
- Sustainable Energy Development,
- Courses for Local Administrators (TEMPUS JEP_IB);
- The European Network for Energy Economics Research ENER (5th Framework).
