Defra - UK Government Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs

About Defra

The UK Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) has five strategic priorities including
  • climate change and energy;
  • sustainable consumption and production;
  • protecting the countryside and natural resource protection;
  • sustainable rural communities; and
  • a sustainable farming and food sector including animal health and welfare.

In the area of climate change and energy Defra aims to contribute to addressing the long-term threats presented by climate change and unsustainable energy use, and to ensure adequate mitigation of the consequences which are already unavoidable. Improved energy efficiency is a key element of energy policy.
